On 15 October 2024, TDI were on stage at the Rail Forum Annual Conference, UK. We learnt more about the industry, discussed similarities and opportunities compared to other product delivery and manufacturing sectors.

Geoff Newman, Chief Operating Officer at TDI spoke as the keynote speaker to audience of Rail experts, Suppliers and Government. He presented Transport Design International as leading the industry in Lightweight thinking as well as bringing the strength of SMEs together.

Geoff also sat on the panel ‘Celebrating Manufacturing, Generating wealth for UK PLC’ alongside Steve Barbour from Composite Braiding, Joanne Farms, Hydram Engineering and John Pearse, Made in Britain.

Geoff reflects,

“In the lead up to the event it was great to dig into stats around UK manufacture and remind myself that the UK is a strong manufacturing nation, we are diverse, we are specialised and above all resilient and adaptable. Directly researching the behaviour of the rolling stock sector, it shows strong growth over the last 3 decades, but not without impactful scheduling and profile challenges.

Being given the opportunity to represent manufacturing at the RF annual conference was an honour to share TDI’s lightweight thinking approach to problem solving and a great way to see first-hand the energy, optimism and professionalism that personifies the UK manufacturing’s strength.

This strength is underpinned by a history of collaboration and innovation, these two elements featured highly in the various discussions. They need to be understood and embraced more than ever to help manufacturers navigate positive outcomes for the future.”

Geoff was joined by Nicola Islef, Head of Marketing and Communications and Sam Sharp, International Commercial Director.

Rail Forum also launched a new brochure at the conference. It provides industry colleagues with a versatile resource to help them easily identify UK rail manufacturing capability.

Nicola Islef, Head of Marketing & Communications at Transport Design International (TDI) said:

“TDI is Rail Forum’s 2024-2025 Manufacturing Partner and we are delighted to be working together to promote the capabilities of UK Rail Manufacturing. At TDI, we are committed to driving lightweight innovation within the rail sector and creating opportunities for local and national suppliers.

TDI is committed to expanding and enhancing our regional and national manufacturing presence, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Rail Forum on this significant project.”
