• Details:  These salad and/or dessert plates are truly original.  They are rare, not easily found, when you do find them, the colors can be very different from one set to another, because they were all hand painted.  These are in pink/purple hues, the range of color will change slightly from one plate to the other.  They are finished with an iridescent luster, we think all this makes them a unique treasure.  The pattern consists of an oriental scene with a Japanese Pagoda by the water's edge.  The water is blue, (or a little pink, varies with each plate), the pink skies also vary in intensity.  The stamp reads: "Chikaramachi, Made In Japan", this mark has been registered since 1928.  It's not known when they stopped using the Chikaramachi marks, but all production, along with U.S. exports, ceased in 1942.

The Morimura brothers founded Morimuragumi (Morimura Association) in Tokyo as an export business for Japanese wears.  As business grew, they realized their best sellers were chinaware and created Noritake as their main line for export.  The name Chikaramachi has been woven into the Noritake history since 1896. Although many of the records were lost during a 1945 bomb fire, the registration documents for the different Chikaramachi logos were found.  The crown and wreath mark was used by the Noritake factory on Chikaramachi Street in Nagoya, Japan, the red mark with the words "Hand Painted", as shown on these plates, can be traced to 1928.  It is not known when they stopped using the Chikaramachi marks, but all production, along with U.S. exports, ceased in 1942.  After the Noritake Morimura Gumi period that ended in 1946, the factory name was changed to Hinode Shokai.
