Eversholt Rail and Transport Design International (TDI) have chosen Altro Transflor Motus for the Revolution Very Light Rail (RVLR) Demonstrator vehicle to support performance and lightweighting objectives.

Altro Transflor Motus featured on new Revolution Very Light Rail demonstrator vehicle
On October 7, 2021, Eversholt Rail and TDI’s RVLR Demonstrator vehicle was unveiled at the Ironbridge site, recommissioned especially for the project. RVLR was developed as a response to the Rail Safety and Standards Board and Department for Transport’s challenge. To provide an attractive rail option for passengers to encourage modal shift toward rail and boost decarbonisation of UK transport. Altro Transflor Motus works as one part of the whole to ensure that the RVLR Demonstrator vehicle rises to the challenge.
A key design philosophy for this project was the concept of lightweighting. A lighter weight rail vehicle takes less power to propel and causes less wear on rail infrastructure, two important benefits for ensuring efficient running on rail services. RVLR has a mass of 24.8 tonnes, a 40% saving on a single-car self-powered heavy rail vehicle of a comparable capacity. This is achieved by careful selection of lightweight, high-performance components. One of these UK-sourced components is Altro Transflor Motus, a 3.3kg/m² EN 45545 HL2 compliant homogenous rubber floor.
As well as being a lighter-weight choice compared with similar rubber products, Altro Transflor Motus boasts a varied colour palette, easy cleaning and great stain resistance. Altro are proud to have worked with Eversholt Rail and Transport Design International on this pivotal project for the future of rail vehicles.
